Article: Jack Scott's Beet
Jack Scott's Beet
A couple of weeks agon I popped down to Nonington to see Jack Scott. Primarily it was a catch up to see what his plans are for next year (more soon) but whilst there we had a chat about his Beetroot.
As you can see from the pic the germination has been great but it has resulted in a lost of Beet growing closely together, and therefore remaining small. Baby beet if you will. As they are so densely packed it is unlikely they will have the room to swell up when the rains come, as they have this week.
Jack didn't think he could sell the crop, looking at a loss of several £k. He'd just have to plough them in.
I told him that KVB customers are made of sterner stuff so I have, on your behalf, committed to taking as much of the crop as possible.
So...starting from next week expect to see Beetroot in you boxes on a regular occurrence.
I realise Beet is not the most popular veg we offer so next week expect to see a 'Beet Special' which will give you a lot more info, recipes and other ideas on how to use the beet up.
I'm pretty sure together we can help Jack out.
It's what we do at KVB.

We LOVE beetroot at Matthews Mansion (no, it’s just a semi-detached) so am happy to have as much beetroot as possible as I’ve learnt how to pickle to a recipe we love. Love that KVB (and us) we are supporting Jack so long may that continue!
